SCHOLARSHIPS At the 2009 annual IWD Illawarra luncheon at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach, in front of nearly 350 people, the winners of the individual scholarships were announced with Cate, Kerryn and Aunty Mary’s family representatives presenting the $1,000 IWD scholarships and trophy. Andrew Stevenson presented Bill Campbell from the William Campbell College with the Cate Stevenson IWD Scholarship for Women on behalf of an 11 year old girl in the care of the College. Due to legislative requirements requiring confidentiality, privacy and disclosure of placement information, we are unable to provide her real name. Therefore in this situation, the College has nominated a pseudonym ‘Lee”. Lee is very talented musically and the scholarship will be used for singing lessons by a professional music and singing teacher at her foster care home in addition to choral singing with other children. The College believes the singing and music will provide confidence and assist her in engaging with her peers. Greg McCann presented Madison Rutter with the Kerryn McCann IWD Scholarship for Women. Madison is a cross country and mountain runner with Kembla Joggers a club in which Kerryn was a member. She has competed at State, National and World level. She has a personal best over 5 km of 18 minutes and over 3 km of 10.5 minutes. Madison has also played netball for 10 years and likes to pass on her knowledge to young kids to help them develop their netball and running skills. Her ambition is to compete internationally again in mountain running and to compete in the Marathon at both the Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games. Along the way she hopes to complete a sports related degree. Richard Davis presented Rhonda Cruse with the Aunty Mary IWD Scholarship for Indigenous Women. Rhonda has been working for over 20 years in the Aboriginal community and worked closely with Aunty Mary on a range of issues.
